As road accidents continue to rise globally, Road Safety and Driving Standard Association (RSDSA) The Gambia, on Monday signed a collaboration agreement with International Association of Road Safety Professionals (AIPSEV) in Spain.

The agreement is to work together in the areas of road safety, training, exchange visits, among others. The collaboration also seeks to enhance road safety trainings, data governance and knowledge through mutual learning.

Shortly after the signing of the agreement via email, Njie Baldeh, administrative secretary, Road Safety and Driving Standard Association (RSDSA) The Gambia, thanked the Spain-based road advocacy group for the move, saying the move would now strengthen their efforts to fight and reduce deaths related to road accidents in the country.

Baldeh while describing the collaboration as a milestone achievement, reminded that the move is not only important for the association, but for the entire country.

“We need this type of collaboration, as Gambia is ranked 8th position in the global road accidents.”

“Our traffic police need more support, like training and equipment to be able to perform their duties properly and to help reduce road accidents in the country.

Pateh Baldeh, executive director, RSDSA said the signing of the agreement is another achievement for the association, adding that his association’s objective is to work with all stakeholders in the area of road safety, being national and international to reduce road accidents.

He thus thanked the Spanish International Association of Road Safety Professionals for accepting their request at a short notice.

Rafael Ruiz Estepa, President of AIPSEV-International Association of Road Safety Professionals, thanked RSDSA for the collaboration, saying the agreement would go a long way in complementing both organisations’ efforts, when it comes to road safety.

“Hopefully we can help reduce the number of victims due to road accidents in your country.”
