The NGO in the past has been instrumental in raising awareness especially on road safety and has also partnered with relevant stakeholders in their quest to make roads safer for all.
At the meeting, Njie Baldeh, administrative secretary, Road Safety and Driving Standard Association (RSDSA) The Gambia, thanked the officials at the Ministry for the welcome, reminding that as the Ministry responsible for Transport in the country, they deem it necessary to seeking audience with them.
Baldeh revealed that the NGO was registered in 2018 with the Attorney General’s Chambers and since then, they have been working with stakeholders in order to reduce road accidents in the country.
“Right now we have our reginal coordinators across the country and they are helping us in sensitising communities on road safety matters.”
The association, he added, is about to embark on a nationwide fundraising activity, the proceeds of which will be used to provide traffic equipment to the Police Traffic Unit, and train drivers.
“Today the number of road accidents that occurred in the country is a cause of concern. Therefore, we need to put our efforts together to find a solution,” he said.
Receiving the NGO officials, Saninabou Houma, principal Transport Policy Officer, Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, thanked the NGO for the initiative to minimise accidents on ‘our roads’ and reaching out to the Ministry.
She, therefore, called on members of the NGO to write a proposal, indicating the areas they want possible collaboration.
