Public Service Ministry staff undergo survey skills, mechanism training

Jun 22, 2023, 12:22 PM

At least fifteen (15) staff at the Ministry of Public Service, Administrative Reforms, Policy Coordination and Delivery on Monday June 19, 2023 began a five-day capacity building forum on administrative survey skills and mechanism for averting deficiencies in the public service dispensations.

The training currently underway at the Management Development Institute (MDI), is being organised by the Civil Service Reform and Planning Unit (CSRPU) of the said ministry.

At the start of the training, Alieu Loum, permanent secretary, Strategic, Policy and Delivery of the Ministry of Public Service, Administrative Reforms, Policy Coordination and Delivery, said the training seeks to help develop the ministry’s staff capacity on research skills and tools to carry-out relevant and timely surveys, thereby enhancing the conduct of relevant surveys to inform the policy formation process independently.

“This is envisaged not only to be a mechanism to generate high-quality data but also as an instrument of institutional transformation and helping to support policymakers to design much better policies based on evidence.” PS Loum explained.

The training, PS Loum alluded to, would support the ministry’s mandate to oversee the implementation of Public Service Policies and programmes by improving evidence-based policy formulation and decision-making for timely and quality public service delivery.

He reminded that the forum is one of the key priorities identified in the Green Recovery-Focused National Development Plan and that the tailor-made training seeks to address critical existing capacity gaps.

The training, he added, would also expose participants to the main concepts, methods and stages for planning and implementing a sample survey, learn by doing all the steps of the survey and how the different aspects are connected in the survey project.

Director, Civil Service Reform and Planning Unit under the Ministry of Public Service, Sheriff Jallow and Principal Management Trainer, MDI, Alhaji Sillah Conateh both graced the opening ceremony.
