“We understand it is difficult to report cases of SGBV, but we should understand that no one deserves to be living in pain and agony, we are established to help survivors regain themselves and be productive in society.”
Fallou Sowe, National Coordinator NGBV, said the initiative is here to also make people realise their rights, privileges and responsibilities to prevent people from enduring certain violations.
Sambou Suso, a veteran musician performed her song titled “1313” which is the helpline number for anyone facing gender-based violence in her attempt to increase awareness and popularize the helpline “1313”.
Awa Bling, an anti-SGBV activist and musician known for her songs performed one of her mainstay songs titled - ‘Bul Faleh”.
Mariama Jobe, also performed her song “Bajen”, a song dedicated to the elderly women in society leading the fight against SGBV in many local communities.
She disclosed that all the three songs are dedicated to the fight against SGBV/FGM.
“The reason for coming up with the songs was mainly to address the issues of Gender Based Violence. Women don’t speak out because sometimes the violence is conducted by a family member; it could be an uncle, a brother, or even the father and the first thing that comes to mind is, I don’t want to break the family.” said Ms Baldeh.
