The event was held at the Gambia College Campus in Brikama, West Coast Region.
Nic Van der Riet, chief executive officer (CEO) of Nic Foundation said his work is centred on teaching and preparing students for the job and internship market as well as positively impact the society.
He noted that his aim is to work with Gambians to ensure a sustainable future through education as well as impact the right attitude in students and also guide them to establish their own businesses.
He stated that he provides half finances for free for young people who have developed their business plans and give them the other half as a loan. He noted that as entrepreneurs they need to risk something, adding that his ultimate goal is to see that young people succeed.
He highlighted the need for young entrepreneurs to be independent and not wait for government to create job opportunities for them.
According to him, the country has many schools but most of them are less impactful.
He expressed his willingness to continue supporting young people become better leaders.
Samsideen Jeng, a member of the foundation, said many young people have registered great successes and achievements through the foundation.
He added that The Gambia has a high youthful population and the initiative to support them succeed is a step in the right direction.
He highlighted the need for young people to come together and work under one umbrella as well as make sacrifices for their nation.
Ismaila Camara, a farmer and entrepreneur commended organisers of the forum for the initiative. According to him, Nic Foundation changed his farming techniques.
He stated that their only challenge as farmers is the unstable market prices.
Soto Jobe, farmer manager at Siffoe Farms said the dialogue availed them the opportunity to learn about the effects of climate change in The Gambia and the world at large.
He encouraged young people to embrace farming and do away with the “back-way”.
Awa Jallow, a beneficiary of Nic Foundation’s assistance thanked the foundation for supporting her education at tertiary level where she studied Public Administration.
She called on her fellow beneficiaries to make best use of the initiative for their own well-being and the betterment of the country.
