The initiative jointly staged in collaboration with educational institutions and civic clubs, was held under the theme “Empowering Youth for Civic Responsibility and Peer-Led Learning”, and accords stakeholders the opportunity to explore critical topics such as democratic participation, the role of civic clubs, and the importance of youth-driven civic networks in shaping the nation’s democratic future.
The initiative is part of broader efforts designed to strengthen civic responsibility, promote peer-to-peer learning, and reinforce electoral integrity among young people.
The forum which attracted students and youth-led networks comes as The Gambia prepares for the 2026 presidential election.
At the launch, Ansumana Ceesay, NCCE Programme manager, acknowledged the transformative role of young people in community development.
"Young people are not only the future leaders of this country; they are today's changemakers. By empowering them with civic knowledge, leadership skills, and a strong sense of responsibility, we are building a generation that will champion peace, democracy, and informed participation," he said.
Ceesay also reminded that peer-led learning and civic engagement would enable youth to become “powerful ambassadors of positive change within their schools, communities, and across The Gambia.
The initiative, he added, underscores the belief that investing in young people today would nurture a generation of informed, responsible, and active citizens who can contribute to a peaceful and democratic future for the nation.
