
Jallow acknowledged that under normal circumstances it should be the role of the Directorate of Social Welfare to help those in need.
He, however, applauded the World Bank and Gambia government for initiating the Nafa project to support grassroot development.
“Participants should take the SBCC seriously because the money will finish, but the skills and knowledge they learned from the SBCC is what is going to help them to continue after the lapse of the project.” he said.
Also speaking, Alasan Sanneh, regional Social Welfare for North Bank Region, revealed that part of their role is to coordinate and facilitate the payment of cash transfer to beneficiaries including the SBCC.
He underscored the significance for SBCC, urging beneficiaries to take good care of the children in terms of physical abuse, corporal punishment and Positive Playful Parenting, which he said, are crucial in early childhood development.
The Nafa Cash Transfer is being implemented by NaNA alongside the Department of Community Development and the Directorate of Social Welfare through the World Bank joint funded project in collaboration with the Gambia government
