Marr queries appointment of ex-NPP strongman, veteran politician as commissioners

Marr Nyang, founder and executive director of Gambia Participates has questioned the appointment of ex- National People’s Party (NPP) member and a veteran politician as commissioners into the commission newly instituted by government to investigate activities and dealings of local government authorities.

The anti-corruption and budget transparency advocate noted that he fully supports the investigation of corruption at all levels, but in instances, it should be ensured that there are no conflicts of interests.

“I support investigation of corruption at any level, but investigators must be impartial and full of integrity. Ex-NPP member and a veteran as commissioners means there is conflict of interest, no impartiality.”

“This is not corruption investigation; this is politics,” he stated.
