Man arraigned for obtaining D600K by false pretense

One Lamin  Ceesay, on Wednesday appeared before Magistrate Sambou of the Brikama Magistrate’ Court, charged with obtaining money by false pretence. 

Prosecutor Touray announced her appearance for the Inspector General of Police.

The accused is charged with obtaining money by false pretence contrary to section 288 of the Criminal code Cap 10 vol. 3 laws of The Gambia. 

The prosecution alleged that in September 2024 at Gunjur village, Kombo South in the West Coast Region with the intention to defraud, the accused obtained the sum of D600, 000 from Lamin Fatty and Buba Suwareh under the pretext that he will secure them (Lamin and Buba) European visa representation.

The prosecution argued that Lamin Ceesay knew that the representation was false. 

When the charge was read to him, the accused (Lamin Ceesay) pleaded not guilty.

Meanwhile, the prosecuting officer sought an adjournment in order to enable her to secure the presence of pw1.

She however, informed the court that she would not object to the accused being bailed. 

The presiding magistrate admitted the accused to a bail in the sum of D100, 000 with one Gambian surety, who must deposit a valid ID or a passport. 

The case has been adjourned to 2nd December, 2024.
