Speaking on behalf of the April 10th and 11th 2000 students massacre victims, Sainey Senghore
said government has accepted all the TRRC recommendations relating to the April 10th and 11th 2000 students massacre. However, he expressed their disappointment that nothingsignificant has been implemented.
He pointed out that recommendations such as declaring April 10th and 11th school holidays or to immortalise the tragic days toensure it never happens requires little funds to implement in partnership with Civil Society Organisations. He therefore called on government to work on implementing the recommendations.
He said this should be done to prevent citizens growing up and forgetting about the tragic days which will derail the Never Again objective.
Mansour Jobe, a representative of the National Human Rights Commission said they are not only committed to ensuring that such incidents do not occur again but also ensuring that there is reconciliation.
He said NHRC urged government to implement the TRRC recommendations particularly those related to April 10thand 11thto help in the recovery of victims but also promote and protect human right in The Gambia.
Kimbeg Tah, representing the Ministry of Justice, underlined that all perpetrators of April 10th and 11th will face justice and be punished accordingly.
“The passing of laws such as the Indemnity Act cannot protect people from injustice they have committed. They shall face justice from top to bottom,” he said.
He added that government is focused on reparations and not only financial support to victims.
