In an interview with The Point, Maimuna Conteh, deputy leader of the women’s garden, dwelled on the challenges confronting them in the area especially those involved in gardening, saying they’ve launched an appeal in the past without success.
She, however, thanked The Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) for providing them with perimeter fence materials sometime ago.
Conteh also called on residents of the village to come forth and contribute their quota to the development of the garden.
“It is unfortunate that our mothers are suffering everyday in the rehabilitation of the garden without that assistance.”
Another concerned woman, Sira Jawo, explained that their main challenge for now is perimeter fence, saying monkeys and other wild animals always freely entered the garden and destroyed some of their crops.
She, however, hailed the youth of the village for their concerns during a recent meeting designed to map out plans to support the garden by digging wells for women.
Jainaba Jawo, an elder at the garden, equally appealed to the village alkalo to allocate them with an additional land to be able to expand their venture, saying women involved in gardening help their respective families.
