Kanilai, Ndemban skills training centers to start lectures in March

Two newly built technical and vocational skills training centers of the novel Institute of Technical Training (ITT) under the Gambia University of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology (USET) in collaboration with the higher education ministry have rolled out their maiden admission for aspiring skill workers in the country as they anticipate to start lectures in March.

As part of government’s effort to improve education and promote technical and vocational skill among Gambians, the Kanilai Skills Training Centre (KSTC) in Kanilai, Foni Kansala District, and Ndemban Skills Training Centre (NSTC), Ndemban Village in Foni Berefet District were built in collaboration with partners.

The purpose of opening the centers is geared towards the drive in promoting TVET education and creating access whiles providing relevant skills training and capacity building in every part of the country.

Both KSTC and NSTC will formally start operations in the 3rd week of March 2023, according to MoHERST.

Programmes to be offered include auto mechanic, carpentry, construction, electrical installation, and welding & fabrication, amongst others.

Requirement for technician programmes is set by the centers at 4 credits WASSCE or O’levels, including English and Maths, whilst the requirement for craft programmes are at least a Gambia Basic Education Certificate Examination (GABECE) and good understanding of English language and basic Mathematics.
