Phoday M. Jaiteh made the remarks during the launch of the Gambia Public Procurement Portal (GPPP) yesterday, Tuesday at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Conference Centre.
He described the launch of the portal as a groundbreaking initiative that marks a significant leap forward in their efforts to enhance efficiency and transparency.
“Today, we introduce the Document Routing and Online Business Registration Platform, also known as the Gambia Public Procurement Portal (GPPP).” he said.
The transformative tool, he noted, is aimed at streamlining communication between public institutions, private companies, and the Gambia Public Procurement Authority.
He added that it aligns with their commitment to modernise and simplify processes, especially procurement processes, and ultimately foster a more business-friendly environment.
The platform is designed and built from scratch by a talented Gambian company, Zigtech, led by a phenomenal lady, he further said, adding that at the helm of the initiative is ‘our visionary President, HE Adama Barrow, whose unwavering commitment to innovation has propelled us towards this day.’
“He initiated this transformation with a request to the World Bank to ensure a more efficient and transparent procurement ecosystem. Throughout the process, we have received tremendous support from his administration. A worthy mention goes to the Ministry of Digital Economy and Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs (our line ministry), who have supported our quest from the onset and have responded positively to any request we have.”
“For the business owners yearning to conduct business with the government, this platform offers you the unprecedented opportunity to register your businesses from the comfort of your own homes or offices. Gone are the days of navigating bureaucratic hurdles in person. We recognise the importance of time, cost, and resources in the business world. With this platform, we aim to alleviate these burdens, allowing you to focus on what truly matters – the growth and success of your enterprises,” he also said.
“The digital era has brought forth new possibilities, and today, we harness that power to create a more agile and responsive system. Procuring organisations can now save a lot of time and financial resources by avoiding the submission of bulky documents and constant follow-ups.”
