Abubakarr S. Jeng was recently speaking at a day’s simulation exercise facilitated by the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF) held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Conference Center in Kololi.
The day’s exercise was part of ongoing collaboration and support rendered by the European Union and the government of Switzerland.
Also, the exercise was designed to strengthen participant’s ability to respond to crisis management situation, using ‘land dispute’ as a case scenario. This, official believe, would enable them to build on the broader community, regional and national security approach as in line with the Crisis Management Manual and Police Doctrine.
Jeng indicated that the ultimate goal was to save lives and protect properties, thus minimizing the impact of crisis situations. The exercise, he added, would also ensure preparedness and recovery from impact of crisis situations and most imploringly, ensure return to normal live situation.
“The exercise was hoped to provide a level of well-rehearsed and focused crisis management preparedness and response capabilities which he says is crucial to the security and safety likewise resilience of their national security.”
He expressed optimism that the lessons learnt from the exercise would be shared with all relevant partners to ensure further support on the resources needed to adequately respond effectively to any emerging crisis in the country.
He thanked EU for the assistance rendered to the government over the years, affirming that the government’s commitment to further strengthening the ongoing cooperation between the Gambia and bilateral partners.
