The beneficiaries include nine individuals and a group who were supported with Broiler Day-old Chicks, 50kg Bag of Starters, 50kg Bag of Growers, 50kg Bag of Finishers, Vial of vaccines HB1 (500 doses), Vial Gumboro (500 doses), Manual Weighing scales (100 Kg), Solar lamp, Wheel Barrows, rakes, spades among others.
The event held at the National Association of Cooperative Credit Union (NACCUG), brought together different beneficiaries from the various fields in the agricultural value chain as part of efforts designed to boost their capability and strength to perform immensely. Additionally, the first phase of the intervention targets over 325 beneficiaries.
At the event, Foday Sanyang, CEO and General Manager of NACCUG, explained that NACCUG has entered into an agreement with GIZ ECOWAS project to intervene in the Greater Banjul Area, Lower River and Upper River Regions.
The support, he added, is a grant that targets fisheries, horticulture and poultry farmers.
“The beneficiaries have gone through the process of applying, application review and approve. The authenticity of the applications they submitted was assessed,” he said.
He however, reminded that the grant doesn’t give physical cash but in the form of materials for their start-up businesses.
Sanyang explained that the first phase of the project had expired and they extended it for another three months to avail beneficiaries of the opportunity to apply for the grant.
“NACCUG is an implementing partner and some of the beneficiaries are our members. NACCUG is a financial entity and is important we inculcate a culture of saving and involve in business. We target 18-35 year olds who have a business plan, registered business and reside within the three regions involved in fisheries, poultry or horticultural.” he stated.
Karamba Jammeh, a beneficiary from Cooperative gardening, expressed similar sentiment.
The gesture, he added, is a big plus for them as it would go a long way in helping them to effectively carry out their work.
Other beneficiaries from the fisheries and poultry sector expressed delight and gratitude for the support. They thanked the GIZ ECOWAS for such a great gesture.
