Press release
The Gambia Immigration Department (GID), through its Intelligence, Investigations and Risk Analysis Cell, in collaboration with the FRONTEX International Cooperation Unit (ICU), on Tuesday commenced a three-day capacity-building training on Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) for state security personnel serving as first responders in high-risk and dynamic environments.
The training, which is being held at the GID Training School (GIDTS) in Tanji, is funded by the European Union (EU) and brings together representatives of FRONTEX, members of The Gambia's security institutions and other key stakeholders.
The programme is designed to strengthen specialised response capacities within border management and security operations by providing participants with internationally recognised trauma-care knowledge and practical skills in casualty assessment, treatment and evacuation before definitive medical intervention.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Hatab Bojang, Commissioner of GIDTS, commended FRONTEX and the European Union for supporting the initiative. He described the training as a significant step towards strengthening operational effectiveness and enhancing border management and governance.
Mr Gauthier, a Tactical Emergency Casualty Care instructor, expressed confidence that participants would, by the end of the course, acquire the knowledge and practical skills required for casualty assessment, treatment and evacuation in emergency situations.
For his part, Superintendent Modou Lamin Joof, Chief Instructor of GIDTS, urged participants to actively engage throughout the training, ask questions and share the knowledge and skills acquired with colleagues in their respective institutions.
The training, the first high-level convergence on emergency casualty care of its kind, is aimed at equipping officers with essential life-saving skills and strengthening preparedness in operational environments.
It also underscores the department's commitment to enhancing operational capability, promoting inter-agency collaboration and deepening international partnerships in the fight against human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
The Gambia Immigration Department expressed profound appreciation to FRONTEX and the European Union for their continued partnership and support towards strengthening national security and border management capacities.
