According to a close source, the Gambia International Airlines recently facilitated a return air ticket (to and from Banjul) - Gambia to Lusaka, Zambia for Jaliba Kuyateh, the King of Kora where he represented The Gambia at an international art and culture fair organised under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema.
GCAA not long ago also supported Gambian Fashion Designers and Gambian Writers to attend various international engagements in different parts of Africa.
Speaking to this medium, a senior official at the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC) described such support as critical and very important, saying The Gambia is a signatory to the 2005 UNESCO Convention which has a whole chapter on artistes’ mobility – in which artistes will be able to travel around the world to showcase the best of Gambian artists and culture.
“So, GIA and GCAA’s support is a fundamental step in the right direction as far as helping The Gambia fulfill its obligation to the UNESCO 2005 Convention and promoting cultural diversity is concerned,” added the senior official.
