The event, which attracted various participants from the Judiciary, National Assembly, Journalists and CSOs, forms part of a project dubbed ‘Strengthening Accountability Network among Civil Society (SANCOS)’.
In his remarks, Marr Nyang, executive Director of Gambia Participate, explained the different types of accountabilities.
“The vertical accountability is when the government are accountable to the people, and horizontal accountability is when government oversight bodies hold the executive accountable.” he explained.
He reminded that the Anti-Corruption Bill currently in parliament, has so many important clauses being removed which are tools that could help in eradicating corruption.
“Most parliamentarians are using culture to justify the removals of those clauses which should not be.”
There is also effort of the Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC) of the National Assembly in investigating the corrupt activities of certain institutions.
He further stated government should ensure that cases of corruption are investigated and prosecuted to ensure closure for the entire population.
