An intense inferno ravaged the Sambou Kunda family in Abuko in the early hours of Saturday, destroying a tailoring shop and a money Exchange Bureau De Change to ashes.

The cause of the fire is still not yet known at the time of writing this report, but many suggested that it may have been caused by an electrical spark.

In an interview with this reporter, Pa Musa Faal, owner of the tailoring shop, who was in tears, said he lost all their valuable belongings and even some cash to the inferno.

The unfortunate incident, he added, has left him in a devastating situation as he lost all his belongings. "Every day, when we are closing from work, we make sure we switched off all the sockets," Faal stated.

Faal called on government, philanthropist NGOS and individuals to come to his aid.

"I am young man who is trying to work hard to put food on my table."

For his part, Lamin Ndow, Councilor of Abuko Ward, said it is really devastating seeing the extent of damage, noting that the fire incident started after Fajr prayers.

He said that he heard people shouting for help and thanked the Gambia Fire and Rescue Services and the youths of the community for timely intervention in making sure they put off the fire.

Efforts to reach the Public Relations Officer of The Gambia Fire and Rescue Services remained futile at the time of going to press.
