Farmer calls on Agric minister to monitor Farmer Platform leadership

Mar 29, 2021, 12:47 PM | Article By: Sanna Jallow

Sanna Darboe, a veteran farmer who doubles as the acting president of The Gambia National Farmer Platform has called on the Agriculture minister Hon. Amie Fabureh to monitor the affairs and leadership of the National Farmers Platform and ensure that the platform holds congress.

He said there are certain scrupulous individuals trying to overthrow him as the acting president to take the mantle of leadership of the platform without going through the right procedure of the constitution. He made these remarks in a recent interview with our reporter at Banjulinding.

It could recalled that the president of the platform Alagie Bass Mboge recently passed and since then, there has been no replacement leaving position vacant.

According to Darboe, there is battle among members as to who should take the mantle of leadership of the platform.

Darboe said he is not interested in being the platform’s president but will do everything possible to ensure the right channel is followed to have a new president for the platform in the interest of the Gambian farmers.

He said the platform is legally registered with the AG Chambers and is out to represent farmers across the country. He said they therefore would not accept certain self-interest individuals to divide the platform.

He also said that at a point certain individuals called for a private meeting over the mantle of leadership.
