Oct 21, 2025, 11:50 AM

Former National Assembly Member for Jimara, Alhagie H. Sowe, has resigned from the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), stepping down from his positions as the party’s Auditor General and Regional Desk Officer for the Upper River Region.

In a resignation letter dated October 18, 2025, and addressed to the GDC Administrative Secretary, Sowe said his decision followed “deep reflection and careful consideration” after years of loyal service to the party. His resignation takes immediate effect.

It is with a heavy heart and deep reflection that I tender my resignation, Sowe wrote, describing the GDC as more than a political organisation, but a family and a movement through which he had worked to serve his people with integrity and purpose.

The former lawmaker expressed profound gratitude to GDC Party Leader Hon. Mamma Kandeh for his leadership and vision, as well as to the national executive for the trust and confidence they placed in him during his years of service.

Sowe also extended appreciation to GDC supporters in the Upper River Region, especially in his constituency of Jimara, for their encouragement and solidarity. Your belief in me and your support have been the backbone of my service, he said, adding that his commitment to development and progress in the region remains steadfast.

He further thanked his family for their patience and unwavering support throughout his political journey.

Concluding his letter, Sowe wished the GDC continued success and formally announced that, effective immediately, he ceases to be a member of the party.
