Ecobank Day is something the bank looks forward to each year. It is the flagship Group-wide social impact initiative led by the Ecobank Foundation.
The event brought together dignitaries, government officials, educators, Ecobank staff, and students under this year’s Ecobank Day theme: “Enabling Inclusive Learning for All.” This theme reflects the bank’s commitment to ensuring that children with disabilities are not left behind in the digital age.
Mr. Muhammed Krubally, Chairman of the National Disability Advisory Council and Secretary General of GOVI, highlighted the importance of partnerships in advancing inclusive education. He expressed gratitude to Ecobank for its continued support and emphasized how technology can transform the learning experiences of visually impaired students, giving them the tools to thrive academically and socially.
Delivering the keynote speech of the day, Managing Director of Ecobank Gambia, Mr. John Nyaaba, expressed pride in the bank’s role as a catalyst for inclusive education in The Gambia. He highlighted the significance of Ecobank Day as a flagship, Group-wide social impact initiative celebrated simultaneously across 39 countries.
“Too often, children with disabilities or learning challenges are overlooked—not because they lack potential, but because the world hasn’t always adapted to their needs. This year, we are changing that. We’re making sure that no child is left behind simply because they learn differently,” Mr. Nyaaba stated.
He announced Ecobank’s donation of a refurbished ICT Lab to GOVI, equipped with:
15 new computers with assistive technology (NVDA software and headsets),
Internet service for six months,
A 3KVA inverter with two batteries for backup power,
Air conditioning, ceiling fans, and lighting, and
Full refurbishment including partitioning, painting, aluminum doors, and curtains.
This investment, he noted, reflects Ecobank’s belief that corporate responsibility is a call to action. He thanked the Ministry of Basic & Secondary Education, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, and other partners for their support in making inclusive learning a reality.
The occasion also featured a lively performance by school children, followed by statements from Mr. Louis Moses Mendy, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Basic & Secondary Education, and Honourable Fatou Kinteh, Minister of Gender, Children & Social Welfare. Both speakers commended Ecobank for its consistent contribution to national development and called on other institutions to emulate their example.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the computers and other gadgets equipped with Nonvisual Desktop Access (NVDA), symbolizing Ecobank’s commitment to empowering students with visual impairments through technology. A GOVI student delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing appreciation for the bank’s support and emphasizing how the new ICT Lab would enhance their learning experience.
The celebration concluded with a tour of the newly refurbished computer lab facility by Ecobank staff, government officials, and other dignitaries.
Ecobank Day 2025 also coincides with Ecobank’s 40th Anniversary in Africa and the final year of the Bank’s three-year campaign, “Transforming Africa Through Education.” In previous years, Ecobank Gambia Limited equipped ICT Labs at Latrikunda German Upper Basic School (2023) and Koba Kunda School in Basse (2024), focusing on digital skills and artificial intelligence.
This year’s theme — “Enabling Inclusive Learning for All” — demonstrates Ecobank’s determination to bridge educational gaps through technology, ensuring that every child, regardless of their abilities, can learn, grow, and thrive.
