
This year’s theme was: ‘United for Progress Empowering Community’.
Welcoming the gathering, Dobally Konoba, who deputised for her husband Alhagie Saikou Sama, said that her husband is always very proud of such laudable initiative and creativity by the young people of the village.
Presenting the activity report, Musa Barrow, Vice President enumerated the achievements of the association, noting that the association have always led the youths on cleansing exercise in promotion of healthy environment.
He pointed out that tree planting has also become a norm for his association, recalling that last year over 200 young trees were planted.
The removal of illegal dumping site was also done in adherence to the environmental health protection.
He thus called on all stakeholders to assist the association to achieve its desired goals and aspirations in the areas of capacity building, leadership roles, skill development and so forth.
In his keynote addresses, Ousman Bah, Governor of Central River Region, while thanking the youths of Dobang Kunda for their foresight and giant steps taken, equally thanked members of his Technical Adversary Committee for working together with him and being on the ground before him.
He encouraged the elders to embrace and support the young people on their developmental causes, adding that he wanted to have first-hand information in terms of the achievements they’ve made that was why he didn’t delegate someone to represent at the event.
In conclusion, Governor Bah encouraged everyone to rally behind the Government of the day in achieving its dreams and aspirations and make The Gambia better for all.
He however, reminded that the government cannot do it all, thus the need for partnership to make the country achieve its desired goals.
The program was punctuated with cultural displays and a drama on climate change and it’s negative impacts on communities.
