DLS senior staff  trained on leadership

A five day leadership training for senior staff of the Department of Livestock Service (DLS) under the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) recently ended at Abuko.

The training that brought together all DLS regional directors was organised by DLS with support from the Personal Management Office(PMO).  

The principal objective of the training was to enhance the capacity of senior staff to be able to manage their junior staff effectively and efficiently at workplaces.

Dr. Ousman Ceesay, Deputy Director General at Department of Livestock Service underscored the importance of the training which he said aimed at enhancing the capacity of senior staff to become more responsive in their daily work. 

He stressed that the training will go a long way in addressing some of the major challenges affecting the senior staff of DLS in terms of operation and implementation at the field level. 

According to Dr. Ceesay, every institution requires good leadership, adding that leadership is fundamental for any effective and efficient institution.

Dr. Ceesay also thanked PMO for ensuring that senior staff of the department are trained.He expressed optimism that participants will utilise the knowledge gained at their workplacesafter the training.

Sulayman Trawally, Chief Executive Office Extra Consulting Corporate Trading Firm said without training for institutions’ staff, they will not be able to deliver effectively. 

According to Mr. Trawally,the training would help the department staff become effective leaders andmanagers as well asprovide them the right strategy direction in realising the department’s goals and objective. 

He said leadership is neither assigned nor located but comes naturally through influence. Mr. Trawally expressed hope that participants have acquired the requisite knowledge and skills to enhance their managerial skills to become effective leaders.
