In an exclusive interview, Mr. Mutahakana emphasized that his visit aimed to better understand GAMCOTRAP and the significance of H.E. Dr. Isatou Touray, a prominent figure in The Gambia and a respected women's rights activist. He noted that Dr. Touray exemplifies the global need for women's empowerment, particularly in The Gambia, which aligns closely with the World Bank's strong commitment to advancing empowerment for women and the girl child in general.
Furthermore, Franklin highlighted that he recognizes the work that is been done by GAMCOTRAP, and especially, Dr. Isatou Touray, which he indicates as remarkable for the Gambia and since the World Bank Group is keen on Women’s Empowerment, it is worth appreciating. He reaffirmed the World Bank Group’s continued commitment to fostering women’s empowerment as a key ingredient for sustainable development.
Franklin also expressed appreciation to GAMCOTRAP for the role it played during the FGM discussions that saw the law protecting women’s rights remain in place.
