China Media Seminar seeks to broaden participants' understanding of Global Media Landscape

The Deputy Managing Director of QTV and Q-Radio in The Gambia has opined that the China Omni-Media Seminar convened for journalists from English-Speaking African presents an extraordinary opportunity to broaden participants’ understanding of the media landscape, particularly within the context of the Chinese Media experience.

Mr. Lassana Tunkara, who is currently in China made these remarks at the opening of Omni-media seminar for Journalists from English-Speaking African countries.

The seminar was organised by the Zhejiang Normal University which was sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), People’s Republic of China.

It was attended by 30 media personnel from 10 African nations. The seminar underway at the Zhejiang Normal University (ZJNU), Zhejiang Province in Jinhua City and will end on Wednesday, 13th November 2024.

Moreover, the seminar among others, seeks to strengthen exchanges with African journalists and enhance the understanding of Chinese and African media comrades in language and culture.

Speaking further on behalf of the delegates, Mr Tunkara underlined that participants’ primary goal at the Seminar should be to explore how media can act as a catalyst for international collaboration and development.

“We should be eager to discover how we can apply the insights from this Seminar to enhance the media community in our own countries further and thereby contribute our voices to wider global conversation,” he said.

He said that participants were equally enthusiastic about diving into the dynamics of the vibrant Chinese media landscape.

“With social and new media transforming the way we share and consume information across the world, to understand these trends is essential for shaping media in our home countries, especially as we navigate the fast-evolving digital environment.”

“China’s path to modernization, the pivotal role of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the strategies that have driven this country’s remarkable progress should be of great interest to everyone, especially those of us from what is called Developing Nations.”

Mr Tunkara acknowledged that with the political and economic systems that support Chinese media independence, growth will be inevitable for the participants’ work when they return to their respective countries.

He on behalf of his colleagues applauded the host and organisers of the seminar, further thanking His Excellency, Ambassador Liu Jin and his team for facilitating his and colleagues’ visit to China.

While in China, participating journalists undertook on a case study instruction on the 2024 China-Africa Cultural and Tourism Cooperation Conference and African countries tourism promotion meeting at the Jinhua Junlan Hotel.

Part of the activities included field visits on building the image of Jingdezhen and the modern promotion of traditional culture; with a field visit for participants to understand Jingdezhen Porcelain with a focus on Ceramic Culture and exploring the cultural communication channels of China’s Porcelain Capital.

On Monday 11th November 2024, participants visited a Chinese Television and Broadcasting Institute, aimed at exploring the Jinhua Media Center. They also held discussions on the current status and prospects of domestic and international self-media.
