The event was graced by ex-pupils, parents, education officers, local authorities and a cross section of the community.
Welcoming the gathering, Malang Kuyateh, headteacher of the school, expressed appreciation in hosting this remarkable event and thanked the ex-pupils’ association for the laudable gesture.
He used the platform to encourage parents and guardians in the area to send their children to school and make sure they retain them in school to complete.
Kuyateh equally called on parents to make judicious use of the monies they received from ESSP project which is meant to buy school uniforms.
Mam Demba Jallow, the Chief of Sami, thanked ex-pupils for conceiving such a brilliant idea, noting that this will not only help other pupilss, but also serve as a motivation for the parents to enroll their children in school.
For his part, Ali Kanteh, chairman School Management Committee (SMC) echoed similar sentiments.
Hasimiu Sidibeh, a senior teacher at the school, hailed the ex-pupils of the school for all the support rendered to the school, further encouraging parents to enroll their children in school.
Kanteh called on parents to desist from marrying their children at an early age, pointing out that the practice is causing more harm than good to the girl-child.
Also speaking, Babou Sanyang, president of the ex-Pupils Association said the objective of the association is to help their brothers and sisters in the school to learn comfortably in the school without going through any hindrance.
‘The aim of the association does not only stop at supporting the children in the school, but to sensitize parents about the importance of education. The association will continue to support the school in different ways ranging from enrollment and retention, provision of teaching and learning materials, among a host of others.’
Sanyang encouraged parents to visit the school from time to time to be able to know the performance of their children in school.
That, he added, would also foster communication between teachers and parents.
Husai Jallow, a member of the Mother's Club in the area, called on parents especially women to limit the household chores or the domestic work on school children and create time for them to read their books at home.
Hawa Mbenga, a teacher at the school, talked about the personal hygiene among students and called on parents to help in ensuring that hygiene is promoted among children especially when they are going to school.
This, she believes, would help them stay in class comfortably and concentrate on the lessons.
The ceremony also witnessed presentation of awards to most outstanding pupils, disciplined and those punctual in school.
