The community of Busumbala Sandinka in the West Coast Region on Sunday commissioned a new borehole courtesy Livity of Zion Foundation. This new community has been grappling with access to potable water these past years before the intervention of Livity of Zion Foundation in partnership with Accountability Project Gambia.

Giving an insight into the project, Nubia Lindsay, founder of Livity of Zion Foundation, revealed that she was informed by the president of Accountability Project Gambia that the community lacks access to clean drinking water and most families travel far to fetch water.

“I then felt the need for us to come together and drill a borehole for the community for everyone to access.” she added.

Ms Lindsay is a British philanthropist, has been supporting needy families and students with their school fees, supported schools and hospitals with medical supplies, victims of human rights violations with clothing and foot wears, among others through her foundation.

She expressed optimism that the new borehole would bring so much joy to the residents of the area.

In a separate engagement, officials of the foundation on Monday met the Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) and Latri Kunda (LK) School Management to discuss possibility of constructing play grounds for some schools with KMC.

Earlier, the foundation is also supported Ahmed Clinic in Latri Kunda German with medical items.

Sheriff Kijera, president of Accountability Project Gambia, described the initiative to support the community with a borehole as laudable.

Constructing the borehole for the community, he said, would go a long way in helping alleviate their suffering with regards to easy access to clean and potable water.

“We have been closely working with Livity of Zion Foundation to extend assistance to the needy community especially some of the victims of human rights violations,” said Mr Kijera, who disclosed that recently 8 victims benefitted from a livelihood support from Livity of Zion Foundation.

He on behalf of the victim community, thanked Livity of Zion Foundation for their assistance.

He also expressed his foundation’s resolve to support more communities with boreholes so as to provide livelihood and educational support to those in need.

Binta Barry, a native of Busumbala Sadinka and beneficiary of the borehole project thanked Livity of Zion Foundation for sponsoring the borehole.

“It was very difficult for us get water because we are a new settlement and the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) water supply has not reached here yet,” she explained, noting that the borehole will ensure everyone within the area has access to clean water to drink, cook, shower, launder and for other purposes. She said that they will ensure the sustainability of the borehole.
