The items worth over 300,000 dalasis are meant to improve and enhance the teaching of Information, Communication and Technology at the school.
At a handing over ceremony held at the school campus recently, Modou Lamin Sambou, principal of the school, expressed delight in receiving the items on behalf of the school, further assuring the donors that the equipment would be used for the intended purpose.
He called on members of the community to see the school as theirs, adding that in order to improve teaching and learning at the school, the teachers also need to be equipped for them to help the children.
“Since the Bakau community has started showing their promises, we are happy about this donation.” Mr. Sambou said.
Lang K. Sanneh, Head of Education at Bakau Development Community, equally assured of the community’s continuous commitment to supporting the school.
Also speaking, Assan Touray, National Assembly Member for Bakau, said the support came through parliamentary fund and it was at the committee’s meeting that he decided to give back to his community, which a particular focus on the education sector.
“It was felt that most of the students in government schools are being transferred to private schools because there are not good resources. Parents are withdrawing their kids and taking them to schools run by individuals supported by philanthropists.’ he added.
Bakau lawmaker assured that he would continue to support the school in view of the outstanding achievements and quality of teachers at the school.
“Other schools are being equipped which is lacking in Bakau Upper Basic School.”
Lamin K. Marong, principal education officer for region one, expressed gratitude to the community for supporting the school and further urged the school authorities to make the best use of the items.
