The presentation came following their successful victory in the recently concluded African Signature Cuisine Competition held in Nigeria, where the Gambia annexed the crown for the Jollof Rice Competition.
The Gambia’s chef team led by renowned chef Saikou Bojang, otherwise known as Chef Bojang recently won both the Jollof and Vegan categories at the West African Food Festival (WAFFEST) held in Lagos, Nigeria.
In presenting the awards to the Minister of Tourism and Culture, Chef Bojang, President of the Chef Association of The Gambia thanked Minister Bah and his satellite institutions for funding their air tickets to the event.
He also applauded the National Council for Arts & Culture and the Tourism Residence and Diversification Project.
Musa Darboe also expressed gratitude and thanked the Ministry and its satellite institutions for empowering Gambian youth through skills. He said the achievement would go a long way to promote destination Gambia. He assured the ministry of his association’s readiness to join hands with them to market the Gambia through culinary tourism.
Abubacarr. S. Camara, director general of the Gambia Tourism Board expressed appreciation and congratulated the Chef Association for winning the gold crown and thus, raised the flag of the Gambia high.
Mr. Camara advised the association to better organize themselves and come up with a calendar of events and submit a copy to the GTBoard.
He said that way, GTBoard will be able to plan and support their activities. He also advised them to be innovative and come up with initiatives to raise funds for the Association to become self-sustainable.
In his congratulatory message, Minister Bah thanked the team for acknowledging the support of his Ministry and its satellite institutions. He assured the association of his ministry’s support for their future activities and advised them to formalise the Chef Association’s partnership with the GTBoard by registering with the Board.
Minister Bah also presented master class certificates to deserving members of the Association.
