The appeal came after a medical doctor from the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) in Banjul medically confirmed that the child suffers from a heart disease.
Doctors at the EFSTH advised with strong recommendation for the child to undergo overseas treatment due to his bad condition.
In an interview with The Point, the child’s mother, Amie Colley revealed that her son, Muhammed Badjie first experienced the pain at the age of 2 weeks.
She added that since then, her child suffers from occasional pain with a swollen face that last for days.
She said that Dr. Musa Jaiteh of EFSTH medically confirmed that her child was born with a heart disease following various check-ups.
“Before taking Muhammed to EFSTH, I earlier this year took him to one Dr Ablie Camara’s home for a check-up. After the check-up, Dr Camara said its looked like the child was suffering from heart disease and advised me to take him to EFSTH for confirmation,” she explained.
“I then took him EFSTH where he was checked by three different doctors who said that they suspect he is suffering from a heart disease,” she further said.
She advanced that from these check-ups, the doctors gave her a paper to go to a clinic near the Medical Research Council (MRC) in Fajara for scanning.
She said that she was further advised to go to Medi Care where it was also confirmed that the child’s heart has a problem.
She continued that when she finally returned to EFSTH, doctors confirmed that the child was born with a heart disease. “Muhammed cannot be treated in The Gambia. We are therefore appealing for financial assistance to facilitate his overseas treatment,” Mrs Colley appealed.
She appealed to the government, NGOs, philanthropists and individuals to come to their aid. Anyone willing to support the young boy can contact Mrs. Amie Colley on (00220) 7994621 or Tijan Colley on (00220) 7583181.
