The African Nations quiz competition was setup to create awareness, build confidence and expression for young African children.The final quiz competition would be held through celebrating children day and African liberation day.
Saturday’s finalists emerged after four rounds of questions at the event organized by TAKE-M Transformation Organization.
The occasion gathered 50 students who represented 50 countries of the African continent who were initially selected through a primary round.
In an interview with The Point, TAKE-M Transformation Organisation Chief Executive Officer, Tunde M.N. Ogundimu called for the need to regain the image of Africa which necessitated to start with the young ones to change their minds towards the positive side of Africa.
He appealed for stakeholders’ support for the final quiz completion as he intends Gambia to be the headquarters for African counties to partake in the program. He thanked Africell for the support and urged them to take ownership of the program.
Isatou Sowe, one of the judges of the competition noted that the idea behind the competition was to bring awareness to the students to know the history of Africa by bringing out the beauty of Africa through quiz.
She added that the quiz is also meant to expose the kids to the positive side of Africato know that Africa is not the continent that people thought it was.She noted that the competition would expose the children to know the geographical divisions of the countries and other countries which were unknown to them, likewise to widen their horizons.
She revealed that their plan is to ensure the winners have the privilege to visit the African Union Headquarters and see the documentations, files, among other things that will serve as motivation for them and others.
Batuly Nancy Jallow, a participant who represented Ethiopia noted that she was excited to partake in the quiz, knowing that it would teach her a lot.
She said that through research, she got to know a lot about Ethiopia even though she has never been there.She said it widened her knowledge to know a lot of unpopular African nations that she has never heard of.
She said she became part of the quiz through a preliminary round where they sat for a test from which she qualified to this stage.She concluded that her achievement would not necessarily be to become the ultimate winner but to have more knowledge about the African continent.
“I believe in Africa. I believe we can make it and in years to come, Africa will be better than the West,” she said.
