Although Ms. Jobe was unable to attend the ceremony in person, the award was received on her behalf by legendary Gambian musician and King of the Kora, Jaliba Kuyateh, whose presence added symbolic weight and national pride to the occasion.
The distinction was later formally presented to Ms. Jobe at her office on January 27, 2025, after which she paid a courtesy visit to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Hon. Sering Modou Njie, presenting the award as a mark of collective achievement for Gambian diplomacy.
The honour recognises more than fifteen years of exemplary public service by Ms Jobe, marked by leadership, professionalism and an unwavering commitment to diplomacy.
Over the years, she has served in several senior roles within The Gambia’s foreign service, including diplomatic postings in Senegal and China, with accreditations spanning parts of Africa and Asia.
During her tenure as Deputy Head of Mission in Dakar, Ms Jobe played a pivotal role in deepening Gambia Senegal bilateral relations, notably through the successful organisation of the first and second editions of the Gambia–Senegal Economic, Trade and Investment Forum a flagship initiative that strengthened economic cooperation and people-to-people ties between the two neighbouring countries.
A firm advocate of South-South cooperation, African unity and the empowerment of African peoples, Ms Jobe continues to champion dialogue, regional solidarity and inclusive development across the continent.
In honouring her, the people of Ziguinchor and the Association for Solidarity and Mutual Aid of Boucotte paid tribute to a distinguished African woman leader whose career serves as a source of inspiration to young people particularly girls across Africa to pursue excellence, courage and purposeful leadership.
Expressing her appreciation, Ms Jobe dedicated the award to African women and girls, describing it as a reminder that service, courage and excellence remain enduring values, while calling for renewed commitment towards building a stronger, more united and dignified Africa.
