Mar 8, 2024, 12:27 PM

President Macky Sall has announced 24 March as polling day for the national and presidential election in Senegal.
The Electoral Commission of Senegal initially announced 31st March but later retracted it to agree with the date announced by the president, as Sunday 31st will fall on Easter Sunday.

President Sall also on Wednesday dissolved his cabinet and named Sidi Kaba, the Interior Minister, as prime minister, to replace Amadou Ba, who will be engaging in the presidential campaign.

The campaign starts Sunday 10 March through to Friday 22 March midnight. There are 19 presidential candidates vying for the top job.

Main opposition leader Ousmane Sonko and Karime Wade are not part of the race.

If any candidate fails to poll over 50% of the votes, there will be second round within two weeks from the day of the election.

During the campaign, candidates will be allowed three minutes of broadcast time on the state TV -  RTS.

President Sall will finish his mandate April Second 2024.
