The United Democratic Party (UDP) has raised concern over what it describes as the Independent Electoral Commission's (IEC) silence on its calls for transparency, and the ruling National People's Party's (NPP) reaction to the demands.
In a statement issued by its Administrative Secretary for Media and Communications, Saikou Camara, the UDP said it has been engaging the IEC for three months over what it called a "simple request for transparency and accountability" in the electoral process.
According to the UDP, the IEC, as the umpire and referee of the electoral process, is yet to respond to its demands. However, the party noted that the NPP, a key player in the electoral contest, has been the loudest in reacting to the issue.
"No other political party has publicly responded to the UDP's demand. Not even the IEC has issued a response to date," the statement said.
The UDP questioned why the NPP appears uncomfortable with its call for electoral transparency.
"So, why is the NPP so uncomfortable with a simple demand for electoral transparency? Gambians, be your own judge!" Camara said.
The IEC is yet to publicly comment on the UDP's demands.
