Trade ministry inaugurates new GIEPA board members

The Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment on Wednesday 4 October 2023 inaugurated a new board member for the Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency (GIEPA).
The inauguration took place at the Ministry’s Conference Hall at Independence Drive, Banjul, and was presided over by the Minister of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment. 

The inaugural board members of the Agency comprise the Secretary-General Office of the President; the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment (MOTIE); Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs (MOFEA); Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Higher Education Research Science and Technology (MOHERST), President of the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI); CEO of Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency (GIEPA); GIEPA Director of Corporate Affairs (the Secretary) while the new Ex-Officio members are Abdou Touray, Chairman of the Board, Papa Yusupha Njie, Member and Ernest Reuben Aubee, Member.

In his inaugural statement, Honourable Baboucarr Joof, Minister for MOTIE, congratulated the appointed members and thanked them for accepting to serve as members of the board of the GIEPA.

Their appointments, the Minister said, was due to their experiences and track records both national and international levels, which could not be overlooked.

Honorable Joof thanked His Excellency President Adama Barrow for considering the appointment of the “three ex-officio members of the society to work with our technical team to support GIEPA to take it to the next level”.

The Minister used the opportunity to describe them as a strong team, saying that with the quality of people brought to the board he was convinced that they should be able to work with the management of GIEPA to come up with a formula that would address the challenges of funding for the institution, which he said is a “top priority” within his priorities for GIEPA. “So I expect innovative, creative approaches from this team that will enable GIEPA to survive,” he added.

For his part, the chairman of the board, Abdou Touray, thanked the presidency through the Minister for MoTIE for appointing them to serve as part of the board members for GIEPA.

He also on behalf of the other members, assured them of their positive impact that would further help the agency to achieve its mandate.
