STATEMENT BY THE GAMBIA BAR ASSOCIATION CONVENER OF STAKEHOLDER DIALOGUE ON THE PROPOSED BROADCAST CONTENT REGULATIONS

May 8, 2026, 10:45 AM

The Gambia Bar Association (GBA) is pleased to confirm the successful convening of the inaugural dialogue between the Ministry of Information, the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA), the Gambia Press Union (GPU), and other media stakeholders on the 28th day of April 2026.

The dialogue was convened by the GBA to facilitate a structured and inclusive engagement on the proposed broadcast content regulations, in recognition of the importance of a transparent and consultative process in the development of media policy in The Gambia.

We are encouraged by the spirit in which all parties participated. Stakeholders demonstrated commendable good faith and a genuine willingness to engage constructively, making this a very productive inaugural session. The Terms of Reference governing the dialogue were adopted, and a clear roadmap for continued engagement was agreed upon.

The GBA looks forward to the continuation of this process and remains confident that, through open and respectful dialogue, stakeholders will arrive at regulations that serve the public interest while safeguarding press freedom and media independence.

The next session is scheduled for Friday, the 8th day of May 2026 at 10:00 AM at the GBA Secretariat.
