Accused of several offences, including rebellion, contempt of an agent, and refusal to comply, Bougane Gueye Dany was finally convicted for the sole offence of refusing to comply.
The sentence handed down provides for a suspended prison sentence of one month, as well as a fine of 100,000 CFA equivalent to D11,600.
Former owner of a communications agency, Bougane Guèye Dany created the D-Média group, which includes the daily La Tribune, the Sen TV channel and the Zik FM radio station.
The opposition leader was arrested in Senegal’s eastern region of Tambakunda on 22 October till 30 October 2024 when he was convicted.
