He replaces Doudou Ndir, who has been in this position since 2009 following the dismissal of Moustapha Touré by President Wade. Magistrate Ndary Lo, who was secretary general of the Cena until then, was appointed vice-president of the election supervision body.
This changes took place in a tense political context. A few days ago, the Cena asked the General Directorate of Elections (DGE) to give Ousmane Sonko the sponsorship forms. This referral had exacerbated the controversies and tensions over the current electoral process, especially since the latter had stuck to its previous positions, believing that the mayor of Ziguinchor was not on the electoral lists.
