As part of Public Service Commission’s (PSC) continuous engagement with the civil servants in the country, heads of government institutions in the Central and Upper River regions have called on the authorities to increase or allocate extra allowances for civil servants on postings in their regions.

They made this suggestion at meetings held in both CRR and URR Governors’ offices where heads of regional government institutions presented their recommendations to PMO and PSC.

This will serve as a motivation or encouragement to civil servants who are willing to take up postings in the farthest regions of the country. It will also encourage other civil servants to take up postings in these two regions, they believed.

They recommended that government vehicles that are currently grounded in their regions be repaired to make them functional, while calling on PMO and PSC to post procurement and information officers to their regions.

They also highlighted in their recommendations, the digitalisation of records, pointing out that their record officers have operated manually for years which is posing more danger to their work as important documents could be missing, burnt or damaged.

They also recommended for PSC and PMO to consider review and augment provincial allowances in the far regions to enable civil servants meet the rising cost of living.

Chief of Upper Saloum District, Demba Ceesay, on behalf of his colleagues in both regions, appealed to government for help in the area mobility to enhance their work in their respective jurisdictions.

PSC Commissioner Mr. Kanye K. Touray, Secretary to PSC Mr. Abdoulie Jafuneh and director, Management Service Division at PMO, Mr. Momodou Bah all recognised the important role traditional authorities play towards national development.

Authorities, thus, assured Upper Saloum District chief, Demba Ceesay and other chiefs in other regions who made similar appeal that government would do its best to uplift their image.
