Public Service Commission gets new chairman

The government of The Gambia has appointed Mr. Baboucarr A. Suwareh as new chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC). He replaces Mr. Lamin Samateh who went on retirement after serving the position for 6 years.

Mr. Suwareh served as PSC commission member under outgoing PSC Chairman, Mr. Samateh for three years.

Mr. Suwareh’s appointment was confirmed last week to the Information Officer Lamin B. Darboe at the Ministry of Public Service (MoPS) by the secretary to the Public Service Commission (PSC), Mr. Abdoulie Jafunneh.

The outgoing PSC chairman, Mr. Samateh was appointed by the government of The Gambia as the Public Service Commission(PSC) chairman on January 25, 2018.

Prior to his PSC appointment in 2018, the outgoing PSC Chairman Samateh held key positions in the Public Service during the First Republic including Permanent Secretary at Ministry of  Information and Tourism in 1984, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Local Government and Lands, Permanent Secretary at Personnel Management Office(PMO), Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, International appointment with WHO offices based in Brazzaville and Harare in Zimbabwe and retired at WHO at the end of 1998.

Mr. Baboucarr A. Suwareh was appointed on January 31, 2024 as new Public Service Commission (PSC). He is a retired educationist where he served for 38 years in administrative responsibility at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE). He served as The Gambia’s deputy ambassador in China from 2016 to 2018.
