Lamin Ceesay, National Assembly member for Kiang West, has raised concern about the manner in which public resources are being utilised on contracts.

“Public resources must be spent wisely,” he said, adding that contractors must respect contracts duration, and ministries must be held to account for the funds given to them to implement contracts.

Hon Ceesay made this statement during the adjournment debate last Thursday at the National Assembly.

He further said the construction of mini stadiums across the country is still yet to be  completed and handed over, adding that more than seven million dalasis was spent on the construction of each of the mini stadiums yet they could not be completed and handed over.

“To terminate contract and give it to others is not enough,” the Kiang West NAM said, adding: “There are sufficient laws to sanction people and take them to task for failing in the responsibility they owe to this nation.”

He suggested: “We must allocate a good amount of contracts to the young people so that the future of this country can be bright.”

Hon. Ceesay also called on the Minister for Fisheries to throw more light on the cost of the 20 fishing boats procured by his ministry and to highlight beneficiary communities.

“It is important for this Assembly to share with us the specification of procurement of the 20 fishing boats,” he urged.

He said that in 2022 the Assembly also allocated ten million dalasis to drill boreholes across the country. “And yet this has not been done. So, this Assembly wants the Hon Minister to explain.”
