Mr Baboucarr Mbye, spokesman of Cement Importers Association, who confirmed the development to The Point, said, since 15 May 2024, price of cement has been increased by D30 per KG for Vat and D180 per Kg.
Initially, on 15 April 2024, it was reduced from D180 per and D30 per kg.
"I can say since 15 May to date, over 300 trucks have been stationed at the border at Kerr Ayip, around Farafenni. This is because this new tax increment on Vat will affect our businesses . Imagine, a bag of cement which was costing D380 now is D575," he claimed.
“We take loans to repay. We pay rent, employ people and pay tax.”
"We are appealing to his Excellency President Adama Barrow to rescue us from this problem.”
