The Public Destruction of the seized prohibited drugs is an annual exercise that is aimed at demonstrating public accountability and transparency in the handling of drugs from the point of arrest to destruction. The Ministry that is mandated to perform oversight functions and supervision of this Agency (DLEAG) has condemned in the strongest terms any actions or omissions that compromise our commitment to a drug-free Gambia.
These allegations, if proven, undermine the integrity of our fight against drug trafficking and abuse, as well as the collective efforts to safeguard public health and national security.
In light of the gravity of these allegations, the Ministry has directed The Gambia Police Force to launch an immediate and thorough investigation. This investigation will leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth, identifying any individuals involved, and ensuring that justice is served to the climax. The Ministry will not tolerate any form of misconduct, negligence, or complicity that may undermine the trust of The Gambian people in our institutions.
The government remains steadfast in its zero-tolerance policy for all forms of drug-related activities and any behaviour that jeopardizes our national security. As we continue to strengthen measures to combat the drug menace, we reaffirm our unreserved commitment to protecting the well-being and safety of our citizens and residents.
The Ministry of Interior also calls on the public to cooperate with law enforcement authorities by providing any relevant information that may assist in the ongoing investigation. A united front against drugs is essential to achieving a safer, healthier, and drug-free Gambia.
We urge all Gambians to remain vigilant and rest assured that the government will take all necessary actions to uphold the rule of law, maintain public confidence, and ensure the security and stability of our beloved nation.
