Pipeline Mosque Foundation The Gambia on Monday extended Ramadan aid worth D475,300.00 to Mill 2 Central Prison.

The items donated were: 36 bags of sugar (50kgs), 430 boxes of tea bags, 7 bags of milk powder and 120 cartons of dates.

Speaking at the handing over, the Second Vice President of the Foundation Alhagie Badou Faye, highlighted that every year, during Ramadan, it is in their programmes that such charity is given out. “This year marks 15 years of consistent donations to the prison,” he affirmed.

“This is something which is obligated on us by the Almighty Allah, through the teachings of His Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). We are enjoined to share the resources bestowed on us with our Muslim brothers, especially the poor and the needy and the prisoners are among those needy people.”

He said their gesture is to complement the efforts of the government as they are doing everything possible to ensure the welfare of the prisoners.

“This is just one aspect of what we are trying to do as a foundation. There are other activities that we are involved in, but this activity is one of the most important to us. And it is being made possible by not only members of the foundation, but the assistance we are receiving from other Muslims.

“Individuals anonymously give us funds to pass over what they have given to us on to our brother Muslims, especially the poor and the needy. May Allah reward them abundantly and reward us all abundantly,” he prayed.

For his part, Ansumana Manneh, director general of Prison Services, expressed gratitude to Pipeline Mosque for their continuous generosity towards the Prison Services and inmates.

“This partnership has been ongoing for 15 years, though they have started this initiative with other organizations. However, those have dropped along the line. This shows that Pipeline Mosque is a foundation that donates to Gambia Prison Services, but a partner indeed.”

“As of these gifts, we all know they are intended for the prisoners. We want to also assure you that it will reach the intended beneficiaries.”

He also urged other organisations to emulate this noble gesture of the Pipeline Mosque.

“Because we know that every year the strength of the prisons is increasing. And perhaps the gift that Pipeline Mosque is giving cannot cover the whole prisoners. Therefore, support from others will help sustain the prisons.”

The foundation annually provides lunch for every ‘Koriteh’ and a bull for every ‘Tobaski’ to the said prison.

The occasion was witnessed by the Chairperson of the foundation and other executive members.
