The items: 36 bags of 50kgs sugar, 430 boxes of tea bags, 7 bags of milk powder and 120 cartons of dates were presented yesterday as Ramadan Iftar.
The Pipeline Mosque has been presenting food items to The Gambia Prisons Services for past 14 years.
During the presentation of the items, Badou Faye, vice president of the Pipeline Mosque Foundation, reminded the gathering that it was an obligation for them to give to the needy people especially those incarcerated.
He said that one of the teachings of the Prophet is to share with the poor, needy and sick people what Allah has given you.
He added that they were trying to fulfill what has been obliged on them by the Almighty through the teachings of His prophets.
“We wish we could do more of these donations in years coming,” VP Faye said.
Ansumana Manneh, director of Gambia Prisons Services, expressed appreciation to the Pipeline Mosque Foundation for their constant assistance to the prisons services.
He disclosed that it is normal that the foundation would often organise lunch for the inmates – something he said shows that the foundation was no longer a partner but a family to the prisons services.
He added that the timely initiative of the foundation had paved the way for other organisations and philanthropies to follow suit and assisted the prisons services.
He further hailed other donors who were complementing the government’s efforts in contributing to the development of the prisons services. He also assured that the items would be utilised accordingly.
Mam Sait Njie, chairman of the Welfare and Protocol Committee and Yusupha Kah, chairman of the Management and Administrative Committee of the Pipeline Mosque Foundation all hailed the gesture.
