The People's Democratic Organisations for Independence and socialism (PDOIS) has on Monday morning elected Halifa Sallah as their flagbearer for the 2021 Presidential Elections.

Sallah is the National Assembly member for Serrekunda and the party's Secretary General was unanimously elected by their Congress delegates.

Sallah will be contesting for the first time in his life under the PDOIS ticket. The last and only presidential elections Sallah contested was in 2006 under the ticket of the National Alliance for Democracy and Development (NADD).

Sallah, in his acceptance speech, said PDOIS' manifesto which called the Transformative Agenda (TA 2021) is capable of bringing about the much desired system change. He mentioned that what was achieved in 2016 was a regime change with ideas of reform. He said TA 2021 is capable of bringing about system change.

Sallah vowed to lead only one term as a President, adding if he betrays the promise he should be regarded as the worst criminal on earth.

He said PDOIS will eradicate poverty and ignorance if entrusted with the leadership of the country.

He said PDOIS will show exemplary leadership that power belongs to the people. Sallah stressed that the leaders of the country should show example.

"We will serve as example for others to follow," he said.

He said power does not belong to the individual but to the people," Sallah said.

He added: "Why should we crave it to a point where we destroy property?"

"Power is not meant to oppress and coerce. It is meant to protect," he said.

He made the promise that if he is elected President of the Gambia and for months and years fail to add value, he will resign.
