Ousmane Sonko sentenced to 2-year jail term for corruption of young people

Ousmane Sonko was sentenced to two years' imprisonment for corruption of young people by the criminal court on Thursday.

He was acquitted of rape and death threats. He will also have to pay a fine of 600,000 CFA francs. 

The public prosecutor has called for the third-placed candidate in the 2019 presidential election and president of the Pastef party to be sentenced to ten years' imprisonment for rape, or at least five years' imprisonment for "corrupting young people".

Mr Sonko, who did not attend the trial and was holed up in Ziguinchor, has not ceased to protest his innocence and to cry conspiracy hatched by the president, who defends himself.

According to his party statement, Ousmane Sonko was yesterday Thursday sentenced to two years in prison for corruption of youth by the “criminal chamber”.

He will also have to pay a fine of 600,000 CFA francs. Ndèye Khady Ndiaye was sentenced to two years in prison for inciting debauchery. She was also fined 600,000 FCFA. The owner of Sweet Beauté, the massage parlor where Adji Saarr worked, was prosecuted for incitement to debauchery, dissemination of images contrary to good morals, and complicity in rape. The accused was also ordered to pay the complainant Adji  Raby Sarr a sum of 20. 000. 000 FCFA as damages.
