The ruling party is yet to unveil its candidates who would vie in the much-anticipated upcoming local government elections for positions in councils across the country.
“NPP supporters already know what is happening, but we will do the selection this coming week. We will announce it before next Friday. We will come out to the Gambians and tell them who our candidates are,” he told King FM Radio on Thursday morning.
“We are not afraid; we were just busy with other issues. How can the government be afraid? We won overwhelmingly during the presidential elections. Why should we be afraid of the local councils?”
Meanwhile, while speaking with the local radio, Mr Mballow also described MC Cham’s comments that NPP members and supporters were appointed by President Adama Barrow to the local government commission of inquiry as accusations of no substances.
He furthered that anyone who doesn’t support the commission of inquiry established by the Government to look into the conduct of councils is prejudiced.
“We all have seen what happened in some of these municipalities, like KMC and Banjul. It is not a secret that there were queries of corruption, which led to the issue of Sainabou Martin.
“These are the types of things which led to our country getting labeled on the international scene. So the president cannot sit down and fold his hands, [when] he is the principal. The president has done the right thing, and this is just the beginning,” he said
“We cannot eradicate corruption completely, but we can fight it. This government has taken a step. People were saying there is corruption in the government, so let them support this.
“If they don’t support the commission, we will see them as people who are biased and not ready to eradicate corruption in the country. People wanted to protest against corruption. We are fighting it now, let them support us. If they don’t do that, we will see them as people who are biased and have a hidden agenda,” he said.
