NAWEC

The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) formally announce the conclusion of its contractual agreement with Karpowership, effective today 2 May, 2025.

Since 2018, Karpowership has played a pivotal role in The Gambia's electricity sector, supplying a significant portion of the country's energy needs through its floating power plant. We sincerely appreciate the dedication, professionalism, and collaboration that Karpowership has demonstrated throughout the years.

As part of The Gambia Energy Road Map 2022-2040, NAWEC is transitioning towards greater energy independence, including the reactivation of its own generators and the continued expansion of sustainable domestic energy sources. While this marks the end of our formal engagement with Karpowership, we recognize and value the partnership that has contributed to The Gambia's energy sector over the years.

NAWEC assures the public that measures are in place to minimize disruptions and maintain stable electricity supply during this transition.

Further updates will be provided, as necessary.

KARPOWERSHIP

Since 2018, we have been proud to support The Gambia's energy needs, providing reliable and sustainable electricity to the national grid. At the height of our operations, we supplied up to 40% of the country's total electricity demand an achievement that reflects our strong commitment to advancing access to energy and improving daily life for Gambians.

Beyond power generation, we have continuously sought to be a responsible and engaged partner. Over the past seven years, we implemented numerous community development initiatives-

-from in-kind donations to infrastructure enhancements and programs supporting

children's welfare.

In light of NAWEC's decision, our electricity supply officially ceased on May 2, 2025. We are now preparing to conclude our operations in the country by the end of the month, in full compliance with local regulations. We are working closely with the relevant authorities and partners to ensure a smooth and respectful transition.

It has been an honor to serve the people of The Gambia. We are deeply grateful for the trust placed in us by the Gambian government, stakeholders, and communities. We remain open to future collaborations that support the country's energy ambitions and broader development goals.
